Wise Practices for COVID Vaccinators
March 23 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
for covid vaccinators
Rebecca Mador, Cultural Safety Manager
Nicole Blackman, Provincial Director
As COVID vaccines continue rolling-out across the province, many First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people will be receiving their vaccinations through mainstream health services. Given the negative historical and contemporary experiences that Indigenous peoples have had with the health system and beyond, it is imperative that Health Care Providers (HCPs) actively design & deliver vaccination services in such a way that supports high quality, safe experiences for Indigenous clients.
THIS WEBINAR WILL PROVIDE PARTICIPANTS WITH FOUNDATIONAL KNOWLEDGE WHETHER THEY ARE PROVIDING VACCINATIONS TO ON-RESERVE FIRST NATIONS OR TO INDIGENOUS POPULATIONS LIVING IN URBAN SETTINGS.
After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
Discuss the colonial history of health care in Indigenous communities, and the implications for vaccination perceptions and practices.
Reflect on the inherent power dynamics within the health care system and how they shape health care experiences of Indigenous clients, families, and communities.
Identify wise practices and strategies for working in a culturally safe and respectful way when providing COVID vaccinations to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people whether within a First Nation community or through a mainstream health care organization.
